Electricity Flashcards
What are conductors and give 5 examples
Materials which allow electrical current to flow e.g copper, aluminium, iron, brass and graphite
What are insulators and give 4 examples
Materials which do not allow electrical current to flow e.g glass, paper, wood, polystyrene
Describe current in series
The same everywhere and can be calculated by dividing the supply voltage by the total circuit resistance
Describe current in parallel
Splits at a junction. If two or more components in parallel have the same resistance the current will split equally
Where are ammeters connected and where are voltmeters connected
Ammeters - series
Voltmeters - parallel
Describe voltage in series
The voltage of the battery is split between components
Describe voltage in parallel
The voltage across all branches is the same as the voltage of the battery
What is current measured in
Amps
