Electrical Therapy Review Flashcards
Indications for Pacing
2nd degree type II HB
3rd degree uncontrolled tachycardias
AFib or Aflutter
SVT or pulseless VTach
Temporary Pacemaker
lead or wire is treated transvenously to the RB with the wire to the power source externally
Permanent
on non-dominant hand side
surgically inserted
Micra Transcatheter Pacing System (TPS)
A fully self-contained, miniaturized pacemaker designed to provide patients with bradycardia, an advanced pacing technology via a minimally invasive approach
NGB Codes
I - Pacing – capturing the heart’s electrical impulse
II - Sensing – see the heart’s own intrinsic rhythm
III - Inhibits (stops) or Triggers (sends) an impulse out or not
IV - Rate Mod – programmability
V - Multisite Pacing – anti-tachycardia function
Failure to Capture
Pacer does not stimulate heart impulse at right time, but heart does not respond
Failure to Ouput
pacer does not generate a pacer spike when needed
Microshocks
Stray electrical current
WEAR GLOVES
Post-Insertion Care
check pacer education pacer card for info check pulse do not lift arm over head s/s of infection or decreased CO
Defibrillation
UNSYNCHRONIZED
puts heart into temporary systole - in hopes normal conduction will restart
Cardioversion
SYNCHRONIZED
machine synched to QRS - fires when ready
The Magnet
closes a reed with - magnet mode – synchronized pacing
AED
cues rescuer
turn on, place pads, analyze, shock (if indicated)
ICD
Defibrillates when needed
