Electrical Theory Flashcards
What is the function of a generator?
A generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy using electromagnetic induction.
How is electricity generated by electromagnetic induction?
Electricity is generated by moving a conductor through a magnetic field, creating an induced EMF and current.
Describe the purpose of a diode.
A diode allows current to flow in one direction while blocking it in the opposite direction.
What is the difference between series and parallel circuits in terms of resistance?
In a series circuit, total resistance is the sum of all resistances. In a parallel circuit, total resistance is lower than the smallest individual resistance.
Explain how an AC generator works.
An AC generator works by rotating a magnetic field within a conductor, inducing alternating current through electromagnetic induction.
