What is result of being on DC External power, how does external power provide aircraft power?
With external DC power connected, the two line contactors open (to isolate both generator circuits), both battery relays open (to isolate the battery bus), and the Bus Tie Contactor (BTC) closes. The generator FAIL lights, battery relay OPEN lights, and the BTC CLOSED light will illuminate. The external power contactor then closes and power is applied to the DC system.
What is the purpose of the spike suppression switch?
Used during external DC power starts, This switch places the battery in parallel with the external power supply to absorb any DC external power supply spikes. With the switch in the START PROTECTION position, BATT RLY switches ON, and DC external power applied, the BATT RLY 2 OPEN light will extinguish indicating parallel operation.
