PA doesn’t work
Saloon doors lock
Faults that can be fixed by a train stable
CCTV
HVAC
Traction
Service brake
Compressor
Park brake

Reduced performance fault light
Where can a train stable be performed?
At a station platform
Under home signal protection
Where level crossings won’t remain active
After you have been given permission to stable the train what do you do?
PA
Close doors
Remove key
Stable train button

What does the general fault light tell you? How does it tell you and how do you clear it?
There’s a fault on the train and you need to check the other fault lights. It flashes and you press fault acknowledge
What does the 1st and 2nd unit indicator tell you?
1st - first 3 cars
2nd - second 3 cars
If any of the local fault lights are illuminated what does that mean?
This car
If the critical defect light is illuminated what could be some causes? (3)
Critical fault on the friction brake system
A complete loss of aux power (both SIVs on one unit)
Defective wheel slip affecting the operation of the sanders
If you can’t move the train with a critical defect what do you check?
Friction brake and monitoring CB in all cars of affected unit
Static inverter monitoring CB in the trailer car
Reset if you can otherwise disabled
What does the maintenance fault indicate?
Service is required. Safe operation of the train shouldn’t be affected
What does the reduced performance indicate?
One or more motor cars are failing to deliver traction power
What does the train do in relation to traction system faults?
The TCU will try and reset the system by doing a component test. If the test fails, the affected traction system will be automatically isolated
What can a driver do in relation to traction system faults?
Go to coast for a bit and see if the fault clears
During slip/slide event what fault light may illuminate and what can you do?
Reduced performance into coast for 2 sec
If you can’t deactivate a cab what CB can you trip?
Cab/train manned
CCTV faults, What c/bs do you check? And if they are set which one do you trip and reset?
CCTV central control
* DC-DC inverter PA PI display
PID failure what c/bs do you check? If set which one do you trip and reset?
*DC-DC inverter PA PI display for 30sec
Passenger info display
How do you reset the DTRS?
Deactivate cab
Trip and reset DTRS c/b
Activate cab
Enter TDN and do radio test
How do you isolate the DTRS?
Deactivate cab
Trip DTRS C/B
Activate cab
Use portable
PA fails on a dock. What C/b do you check and what else could you do to rectify?
PA system c/b
DC-DC inverter PA PI display
Train stable
PA fails in running what do you do?
Is the DTRS pa working?
If both not working check all C/Bs
Trip DC-DC inverter PA PI display for 2 mins
Works? Yay
Doesn’t work and both PAs are out? Remove from service
One Panto fails to raise.
Check Panto control and motor
Might to raise from another cab or manually
All Panto fail to raise
Check Panto control
Can you raise them from another motor?
Stable train for 1 min
Trip Panto motor
Manually raise leading
Activate cab

Panto down and pantos don’t lower
Check
- Panto motor
If that doesn’t work, leave and book
Isolating pantos
Key off
Stable the train
Trip Panto motor manually lower if needed
Activate cab
Panto up
Make sure Panto stays down
What happens when you loose both SIVs?
You loose all of BATH only emy lighting and half cab fluro
SIVs won’t start with less then how many volts?
82
How do you manually start the SIVs
Train stable
Trip Panto motor manually raise leading Panto
Go to SIV container and press self excite until it clicks
Activate cab
Panto up
Reset Panto motor
What does the door systems fault light tell you? And what do you need to do?
The DCU has detected a door fault and has isolated it
If you have steady blue light, wait till you change ends to isolate otherwise go to the defective door and isolate
