A

15mins

33
Q

If the step light is not illuminated what are the possible causes? (4)

A
  • the light is defective
  • the storage batteries are flat
  • the batteries have been isolated
  • the battery box fuse is blown and/or missing
34
Q

If the battery switch is found to be on what can you assume about the batteries?

A

They are flat or the fuse has blown

35
Q

How long after raising the pantos will the high voltage presence light illuminate?

A

30 seconds

36
Q

If you start the train and the pantos haven’t risen what do you check?

A

Voltmeter

37
Q

If the pantos haven’t risen and there’s no voltage what do you check?

A

Position of the battery box iso switch. If isolated report if not declare disabled

38
Q

If the pantos haven’t risen and you have above 90 volts

A

Check the trailing Panto control buttons are not latched in. Try raise pantos from another cab

39
Q

If you have tried to raise the pantos from another cab and they don’t raise what do you do?

A

Check 3 way switch in trailer car
Make sure Panto CB are set

40
Q

What are the position of the 3 way Panto switch?

A

Auto
Manual raise
Manual lowering and iso

41
Q

How do you isolate the Panto?

A

Stable train
Make sure pantos have lowered
Go to affected trailer Panto and switch to manual lower and iso
Activate leading cab and raise other panto

42
Q

If you have to coast under something what do you need to do first?

A

Panto test

43
Q

When coasting under something what do you put the EMS to?

A

Position 1 online holding brake inhibit

44
Q

What happens if there are 2 keys in?

A

Emergency brakes

45
Q

You get in the train and activate the cab but you find that another cab is operative, what do you do?

A

-cab to cab
- no response? check each cab for keys
- no keys? Activate and deactivate each cab to see which one is the problem it may also help rectify the fault.
- if none of that works train stable
- if that doesn’t work then the train can only be driven from the active cab so you may need a C/E. No C/E = disabled

46
Q

Emy brake applied and won’t release, what do you check in the local cab? (11)

A

110vdc? (Cab fluro)
Trip lowered and reset?
ESB
Emy position of master controller
Hand or foot set?
Vicers activated?
EMS 2
MR above 580?
Another cab operative?
23Q1 &2 set?

47
Q

Emy brake applied and not releasing what do you check in the other cabs?

A

ESB
Trips raised?

48
Q

When using the safety loop bypass what else do you need to isolate?

A

VICERS

49
Q

What do you loose when you use the safety loop bypass? (7)

A

Emy position of master controller
ESB
Pilot valves
Auto vigilance bypass button
Trip
Brake pipe pressure switch during train rescue
MR pressure switch

50
Q

If you need to use the auto vigilance bypass switch what else do you need to isolate?

A

VICERS

51
Q

When would you need to use the auto vigilance bypass switch?

A

Hand or foot pilot valve defects

52
Q

When would you need to isolate VICERS? (4)

A

Safety loop bypassed
Auto vigilance bypassed
Abnormal operation of VICERS

53
Q

When the train is stabled how long will VICERS run on the internal battery for?

A

2 mins

54
Q

If you loose one SIV on one unit what happens?

A

The other SIV will take over
The battery charger fault light may illuminate for 2 mins while they change over
Air con will be halved on the affected 3 car unit
One air comp will operate on the 3 car unit
