Electrical Components Flashcards
What is a thermistor?
A thermistor is a device that only lets currents flow at certain temperatures. Used in central heating.
What is a Light Dependent Resistor?
An LDR is a resistor that’s resistance changes according to the intensity of light.
High light intensity = Decreased resistance.
Low light intensity = Increased resistance.
What is a switch?
A switch is used to turn a circuit on (closed) and off (open).
What is a lamp?
An electrical current heats the filament in a bulb so that it gives out light.
What is a resistor?
A resistor restricts the flow of electrical current. A fixed resistor has a resistor that does not change.
What is a variable resistor?
Moving the slider on this resistor changes the resistance. Used in some dimmer switches and volume controls.
What is a semiconductor diode?
A semiconductor diode allows current to flow in one direction only. Current will not flow in the other direction.
