Electric Flashcards
How do free electrons move in an Electrical Conductor?
From the Negative terminal to the Positive one
How does Conventional current flow?
From the Positive to the Negative side of the Battery
What is Current and how is it measured
The flow of electrons, using an ammeter
How are ammeters connected to a circuit?
In Series
How is Voltage measured?
Using a Voltmeter
How is a voltmeter connected in a circuit?
In Parallel
Series Circuit (4 pieces of info)
- One Big Loop, only one lead connects to each object inside.
- Current = the same everywhere
- I one Bulb goes out then they all will
4.Voltage across supply = sum of voltage across other components
Parallel Circuit (4 pieces of info)
- Current can take more than one path (more leads)
- Current = not the same everywhere
- All components in parallel have the same voltage
- Bulbs can be switched off independently
How to calculate Resistors in Parallel
1 / Rt = 1 / R1 + 1 / R2 (then flip)
Q = IT
Q = Charge in Columbs (C)
I = Current in Ammeters (A)
T = Time in seconds (s)
How can strength in a magnetic field be increased?
- Increase the Current
- Increase the Total No. of Coils
- Use an Iron Core
How do lines in a Magnetic field run?
North > South
P = IV
Power = Voltage x Current
Energy (J) = Power (W) x Time (s)
Energy (J) = Power (W) x Time (s)
Protection from Electrical Shock
- Earthing - If the casting becomes ‘live’ the current will flow through the low resistance earth wire and into the ground away from the user.
- Double Insulation - Coated in Plastic
