if the party is not united it can mean the party is seen as not having a clear vision for the government

- they help to form governments. if a party wins a general election. it secures the right to govern-they provide a choice of politicl programme in their manifesto

- they provide representation by ensuring that MPs ae accountable to their constituents at regular intervals
what is an electoral mandate
refers to the authority extended to the winning party or candidate following success in an election. a mandate grants permission to act or produce legislation in accordance with the promise or manifesto offered for consideration and choice at the election
how elections promote democracy
- educate the public
- encourage participation in elections
- government and MPs are responsible to the people
- political change over via elections ensures there that there is peaceful change
- democracy are the ultimate expression of the popular will.
