Electicity Circuits Flashcards
Kirchhoffs 1st law
Conservation of charge in a closed circuit
Kirchoffs 2nd law
Sum of emf=PD
Electric current definition, equation and si unit
The rate of flow of charge I=Q/T
SI base unit for current is Amperes(a)
Potential difference si unit and definition
V- energy transferred per unit of charge between two points in a circuit.
V= W/Q, (w is energy transferred)
Resistance si unit and definition
R- measure of how difficult it for current to pass through a component.
Measured by dividing Pd across a component by the current flowing though it
R = V/I
Ohms law
V=IR
Potential difference definition
The difference between two points of a circuit, due to charge doing work on componenets
Formula for current
I= Q/T (current = charge/ time)
Charge formula
I=neV/dt (charge= (free electrons x elementary charge x volume)
Mean drift velocity definition
Average velocity of the electrons as they travel down the wire colliding with positive metal ions
Potential difference across component formula
Vout= R2/ R1+R2 x Vin
Where Vin is the emf of the circuit and Vout is the potential difference across R2.
Potential difference
Change in potential energy per unit charge
