What is CENELEC and describe its purpose?
European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation. It aims to harmonize the electrotechnical standards of its members’ countries: 18 West European countries.
What does NSAI stand for and give a brief description.
National Standards Authority of Ireland. It develops and publishes standards to meet the international demands for quality, design, performance, and safety of products and services.
What does H& SA stand for and describe its purpose?
Health and Safety Authority. Primary focus is on the prevention of injuries and deaths in the workplace.
What does CRU stand for and describe its purpose?
Commission of Regulations of Utilities. Irelands independent energy and water regulator with the job of ensuring EBS, EIRGRID, and Gasworks meet their 6 goals.

Appointed by the CRU, they are responsible for the regulation of the activities of electrical contractors with respect to safety.

Electricity Supply Board. They operate from generation through transmission and distribution to supply. ESB owns the assets worth €9 billion, this being pylons, substations, and all.
Give a brief description of ESB Networks.
A subsidiary within ESB group licenced with the task of building, operating, maintaining, and developing the electricity network. They are ESB’s distribution systems operator.
Give a brief description of EIRGRID.
They are independent from ESB and are known as the country’s transmission systems operator since 2006. They own major transmission links and run the wholesale market for electricity.
