TFCC
Triangular fibrocartilage complex
Fans out from the base of the ulnar styloid process to the medial edge of the distal radius
Acts like a meniscus as a load bearing structure - acts as a stabiliser to the ulna side of the wrist
TFCC Tears
Injury - falling on outstretched hand or a sudden twist that over-rotates your wrist. Radial fracture
Thins with age
Pain
loss of grip strength
Clicking in supination
MRI will show tear
If left untreated it will heal on its own but can lead to a weak or unstable wrist.
NSAIDs and bracing and reduce swelling and pain
TFCC degeneration
Relatively long ulna
Impaction of ulna head onto lunate
Ulnar carpal arthritis
Colles fracture leaving it shorter than usual
Ulnar sided wrist pain
Clicking or tenderness between pisiform and ulnar head
