Elbow MMT Muscles Flashcards
Muscles involved in elbow flexion
biceps brachii, brachialis, brachioradialis
How to isolate biceps brachii during flexion MMT
elbow bent, palm supine (facing up)
How to isolate brachioradialis in flexion MMT
forearm in mid-position b/t pronation & supination
How to isolate brachialis in flexion MMT
forearm pronated (palm facing down)
Brachialis OII
Origin: distal half of anterior humerus
Insertion: ulnar tuberosity and coronoid process
Innervation: musculocutaneous nerve
Muscles involved in elbow extension
triceps brachii, anconeus
triceps brachii OII
Origin: infraglenoid tubercle of scapula, posterior shaft of humerus
insertion: olecranon
innervation: radial nerve
muscles involved in forearm supination
supinator, biceps brachii
supinator OII
Origin: lateral epicondyle of humerus, annular ligament, proximal ulna
insertion: proximal shaft of radius
innervation: deep branch of radial nerve
isolate supinator in forearm supination
put elbow and shoulder into flexion to put biceps into active in sufficiency
Muscles involved in forearm pronation
Pronator teres, pronator quadratus
Pronator quadratus OII
Origin: anterior distal ulna
insertion: anterior distal radius
innervation: median nerve
isolate pronator quadratus during forearm pronation
flex elbow and ask patient to pronate (put pronator teres into active insufficiency)
