Elastomers Flashcards

1
Q

What are elastomers?

A

Elastomers have long chain molecules that can be considered to be coils( they act link spring - expand and contract to their original shape). This gives elastomers their elastic properties.

Q

What is liquid silicon rubber (LSR)?

A

LSR is a thermosetting elastomer made up of two components, one being a catalyst. Both are mixed together in liquid form to a high degree of consistency. It is then processed by a ram which forces the liquid into a heated mould.

Q

What is the main advantage liquid silicon rubber?

A

LSR has the ability to maintain its insulating and elastomeric characteristics over a wide temperature range (-50°C to 250°C).
LSR can be used to make electrical conductors, baby products, kitchen products and a range of medical equipment.
