Elastomeric Impression Materials Flashcards
What are the two types of elastomers to exist?
- polyether materials
- addition silicone materials
How are elastomer materials formed?
by polymerisation with cross-linking of polymer chains
What is the ideal viscosity of an impression material?
must be able to flow readily to enter undercuts etc
What is the ideal surface wetting of an impression material?
must make intimate contact with teeth/mucosa
What is the ideal contact angle of an impression material?
small contact angle so that there are no spaces between globules of impression material
how can permanent strain of an impression material be lowered during use on a patient?
reduced load time = IMPRESSION REMOVED WITH A SHARP PULL
What is the ideal rigidity of an impression material?
ideally low (flexible)
What type of elastomer is Impregym Penta Soft (medium)?
polyether
What type of elastomer is Aquasil Ultra?
addition silicone
