Poetry
literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature.
rhyme
correspondence of sound between words or the endings of words, especially when these are used at the ends of lines of poetry.
rhyme scheme
the ordered pattern of rhymes at the ends of the lines of a poem or verse.
mood
the emotional undertone that an author conveys in a work.
alliteration
the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.
assonance
in poetry, the repetition of the sound of a vowel or diphthong in non-rhyming stressed syllables near enough to each other for the echo to be discernible
consonance
the recurrence of similar sounds, especially consonants, in close proximity
repetition
the action of repeating something that has already been said or written.
Why do poets use rhyme?
To create a musical quality
To emphasize sounds that suggest a particular feeling such as;
surprise or sadness
To create rhythms, or patterns of stressed and unstressed syllables
What is the difference between assonance and consonance?
The difference is assonance is the repetition of vowel sounds, whereas consonance is the repetition of consonant sounds.
What is the difference between alliteration and repetition?
The key difference between alliteration and repetition is that alliteration is the repetition of the initial consonant sound of two or more nearby words, while repetition is the usage of a word or phrase two or more times in a speech or written work.
