Characterization
The process in which the author reveals the personality of a character
Direct characterization
The author tells the reader a character’s trait.
Indirect characterization
The author shows the reader a character’s trait

Irony
It’s the opposite of what you expected
Theme
the message, lesson, or moral of a story
Imagery
using very descriptive language that appeals to the reader’s senses

when an author hints at something that will happen later in the story

When you compare 2 unlike things using “like” or “as”

When you compare 2 unlike things NOT using “like” or “as”

A phrase that has both literal and figurative meaning
The Ordinary World
when the hero is in his own world and feels out of place.
Call to Adventure
Something happens in the human world that starts the hero on his journey.
Entering the Unknown
the hero enters a world that is different from theirs. It can contain supernatural beings, magnificent sights and danger.
Supernatural Mentor/Aid
Someone who has mastered the laws of supernatural (magic). Who guides the hero to complete their quest. The hero also can be given a supernatural object to help them. (pen, shoes, pearls, hat, and water)
Stage 5: Allies/Helpers
Someone who helps the hero on their journey. (Grover and Annabeth)
Road of Trials
A series of events that test the hero and helps transform them to who they are meant to be.
The Supreme Ordeal
all the events lead up to this main climax. When the hero faces the biggest challenge. (Ares vs. Percy)
The Magic Flight
When the hero has the item/reward and has to return it to where it belongs.
