a type of writing in literature that is structured in a way that is unlike drama’s format or poetry’s format. This is the most common form of fiction and non-fiction
Prose
a type of drama that deals with light and amusing subjects and usually has a happy ending. Is not necessarily funny.
Comedy
a type of drama where the hero suffers a fall from good fortune. This type of drama does not end well, usually death.
Tragedy
a characteristic that causes the hero to fall from good fortune.
Tragic Flaw
the protagonist (central/main character) of a tragedy
Tragic Hero
the adversary or hostile force opposing the central character.
Antagonist
a dramatic element that is the written instructions to explain how to perform that play.
Stage Directions
the larger units of a play
Acts
the smaller units of an act. Usually used for scenery changes.
Scene
characters say one thing but mean another thing
Verbal
outcome is opposite of what is expected
Situational
reader or audience knows something that the characters do not know.
Dramatic
a conversation between characters.
Dialogue
a speech given by a character who is alone on stage that reveals their thoughts and feelings to the audience.
Soliloquy
a character’s remarks that reveal the character’s thoughts and feelings but the other characters on stage are not aware of them
