Compound
A compound sentence has two independent clauses that are connected by an assisting word; These words are something like and, nor, & so.
Complex
A complex sentence has one independent clause and then it also has one (or more) dependent clause(s). This is all linked by subordinator words or relative pronouns like because, when, and which.
Whom
If you can replace it with him or her (or another object pronoun), use whom.
Appositives
“Renamers,” they are noun phrases that “rename” a person, place or thing (aka, a noun).
Dashes
A dash is a punctuation mark used to pause, change pace, or shed emphasis on an explaining or qualifying statement.
Introductory phrase
Ing and Ed phrases that start a sentence. They can also be in the middle and the end
