ekg quiz practice Flashcards
what are pulse waves?
series of bumps along arteries that indicate blood flow
what is pulse pressure?
extent of arterial wall bulging that may change due to changes in cardiac output
what is an ECG (EKG)?
graphical representation of electrical activity in the heart, specifically atrial of ventricular depolarizations and repolarization
know the systemic and pulmonary circuits/pathways for the heart.
^3^
what does the P wave record in the EKG graph?
- electrical depolarization of atria (originates in SA node)
what does the QRS complex record in the EKG graph?
- electrical repolarization of atria (hidden)
- electrical depolarization of ventricles
what does the T wave record in the EKG graph?
- electrical repolarization of ventricles
what does the P wave infer in the EKG graph?
- contraction of both atria
what does the QRS complex infer in the EKG graph?
- relaxation of both atria
- contractions of both ventricles
what does the T wave infer in the EKG graph?
- relaxation of both ventricles
what is the description of the P wave?
- atrial systole
what is the description of the QRS complex?
- atrial diastole (hidden in QRS complex)
- ventricular systole
what is the description of the T wave?
- ventricular diastole
describe two mechanisms that can change blood volume flowing to your fingertip
- temperature change: when exposed to a cold stimulus/environment, blood flow to the fingertip will slow down (due to vasoconstriction) in an attempt to conserve heat. when exposed to a hot stimulus/environment, blood flow to the fingertip will increase (due to vasodilation) in an attempt to cool down/get rid of excess heat.
- the forces of gravity are actively working on the blood flowing to the tip of the finger if it is raised in the air.
