EKG Flashcards
What are capillaries?
Smallest blood vessels containing oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.
What does the p- wave represent?
arterial depolarization
What does standard limb leads measure?
simultaneous flow of electrical current in 2(bipolar) directions.
Which lead is moved to the right side of the chest on an infant?
V4
What position should the patient be in when giving an EKG?
Supine
How many leads make up the standard/ bipolar leads?
3 leads
Which ppe should be used on a patient with droplet preauctions?
A mask
Where do you store electrodes at the end of day?
warm, dry environment
What happens when a patient BP is elevated during blood test?
Keep monitoring the patient throughout the day
Where is the correct placement of electrodes on a patient with amputated limbs?
above amputated site, in the same location on opposite limbs.
Blood flows from heart to lungs through which blood vessel?
pulmonary arteries
What do you do when you have no activity on EKG with a patient who is alert and is conscious?
check electrodes and cables
How many beats per min is tachycardia?
110 bpm
What is depolarization?
When the electrical system of heart activates myocardium cells.
contraction of stimulated heart muscles
What is the electrical event that coincides with contractions?
Depolarization
If a patient has below the right elbow amputation where should you place the RA lead?
Right Deltoid- Right upper shoulder
What is the purpose of a defibrillator in emergency situation?
To Produce electrical shock to the heart
T wave inversion indicates?
myocardial ischemia
What is myocardial ischemia?
lack of blood flow getting to your heart muscle
What electrode do you modify for a pediatric patient?
V6 can be placed on the posterior surface of chest
What can the EKG Tech say to a patient before the test?
The test does not have no electrical shock involved in this test
What is normal sinus rhythm?
60-100 BPM
