* simple interface.
* Storage is elastic and can grow and shrink as you add and remove files.

No pre-provisioning, so you only pay for the storage that you use.

Block-based storage (files can be shared with out EC2 instances)
Data is stored across multiple AZs
Can scale up to petabytes
can support thousands of concurrent NFS connections.
