- Association with crime - lack on inhibitions, make careless decisions
- Drug trafficking - worldwide issue, as long as there is demand there will always be illegal trafficking
- Cost of treatment to NHS (Overdose patients, rehabilitation, one-off party night states)
- Unemployment

Estimates by University of York that the overall cost of drugs to society in England and Wales are between £10.9 and £18.8 billion

How does crime link to recreational drugs?
A
- Drug users resorting to theft, bulgary, fraud etc to get money to buy drugs (as heroin/crack users need £15-30,000 to fun their habits)
- Drug dealers
- Driving offences
- Violence
