Effects of current-carrying conductors and coils Flashcards
1
Q
If current stops all together, what happens to the flux lines?
A
They will collapse around the conductor
2
Q
If current increases , what happens to flux lines?
A
More are created and there is a higher magnetomotive force
3
Q
Direction of flux lines by using the “left hand” rule for conductors
A
- thumb is in direction of current flow
- fingers are in the direction of the flux lines
4
Q
What happens to both the conductors if a short circuit occurs?
A
- currents become very high (as high as in the thousands of amps)
- force is high
- Could blow apart from each other
5
Q
Direction of current by using the “left hand” rule for coils?
A
- Fingers point in direction of current
- Thumb points towards north pole
