critic of the mother and her “fake” love for the father as she only wanted it to be known that she was married when her husband was dead

mother is referencing food, shows that the world has outgrown her and that her near death is not necessarily bad

Respect and appreciation for his mother suffering. Scars are a memory of who she used to be

Her name is smudged, symbol of her losing her identity and what made her who she was.

We hear the mothers voice again, and like last time she is ignored, but this time the narrator is apologetic and regretful
