Frequency band: 4-8 Hz?
Delta
Dominant Frequency
The frequency of EEG activity that occupies the greater part of the recording.
Morphology
The form or shape of EEG waves and patterns.
Monomorphic
Having 1 dominant pattern/rhythm
Polymorphic
Multiple frequencies together creating a complex waveform
Biphasic
A waveform having 2 phases/deflections on each side of the baseline.
Triphasic
A waveform having 3 phases
Sinusoidal
Having a curved shape, as in a sine wave
P2/P200 component
ERP form; peaks ~200ms after stimulus
Part of response to visual stimuli; modulated by attention; may be part of cognitive matching of visual stimuli to stored memory.
Burst
A group of waves that appear and disappear abruptly; distinguished from background group activity by differences in frequency, form and/or amplitude.
Does not imply abnormality.
Channel
Complete system for the detection, amplification and display of potential differences between a pair of electrodes
Clipping
Distortion of EEG waves which makes them appear at-topped in the write-out or display. Caused by overload.
Epoch
A period of time in an EEG recording.
ERP
Event-related potential:
Evoked potentials elicited by cognitive activity.
Fast alpha variant rhythm
Characteristic rhythm at 14-20 Hz, detected most prominently over the posterior regions of the head. May alter- nate or be intermixed with alpha rhythm. Blocked or attenuated by attention, especially visual, and mental effort.
High pass filter
Low frequency filter
Notch filter
A filter that selectively attenuates a very narrow frequency band, thus producing a sharp notch in the frequency response curve of an EEG channel.
