Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)
Bans employment discrimination based on age if the employee is 40 years old or older.
American Recovery and Reivestment Act (ARRA)
Gov created projects such as highways, building, dams. Provisions that provided partial payments of COBRA. Applied to indivudals involuntary term prior to May 31.
Modified HIPPA privacy which now security and privacy requirments to businesss associates (anyone who trasmit protected medical data, store process or have contact)
Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA)
Requires employers with group health insurance to offer term ee the opportunity to contiune their health plan. Cost at group rates, employerr can add small admin service charge (2% max)
Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA)
Prohbits employers from
- using ee age to discriminate in benefits
- target older workers during reductions or downsizing
- requiring older workers to waive their rights w/o opp to review with legal advisor
