what were some causes of the revolt

A

loss of land - ode and fitzosbern did land grabs all over the country.
castles - they were resented as being a symbol of Norman domination. housing was cleared to build castles so people were forced to leave and provide resources for the castles
taxes - William imposed a heavy geld tax. William returned to normandy in 1067 bring a lot of English treasure with him

William took his forces north into mercier
William took control of the burhs of Warwick and Nottingham and but castles there.
Edwin and morcar came down to Warwick and submitted to William
