- Plays a part in secondary socialisation, passing on core values.
- Allocation- sifts and sorts people for the appropriate job.

Say education is patriarchal
Liberal- want EQUAL ACCESS TO EDUCATION FOR BOTH SEXES.
Radical- believe men are bad influence, and want FEMALE-CENTRE EDUCATION for girls.
Marxist- want to consider gender inequalities COMBINED WITH INEQUALITIES of CLASS and ETHNICITY.
New Right
Believe in the power of INDIVIDUAL CHOICE, and prefer this to the state intervening people’s lives.
Claim that school should be more like the role of a BUSINESS.
Postmodernist
The aims of education are teaching critical thinking, production of knowledge, development of individual and SOCIAL IDENTITY, SELF CREATION. In postmodern education teachers just lead students to discover new things.
