Bourdieu Capitals:
Cultural capital- Tastes (music, art, food), manners, interests, language. The most important form of capital according to
Bourdieu. E.g. going to the museum will help the students in educational attainment.
Economic Capital- Wealth and money . Being able to has access to computers , the internet , having a quiet study area and having the capital to be able to afford private tuition.

Low income leads to:

-Bullying and isolation due to lack of resources and stigmatisation around being from a low-income background.
-Going to a less effective school due to marketisation policies of open-enrolment leading to selection by mortgage.

Lupton / Weale - Selection by mortgage /ineffective teachers:
Lupton (2004) Teachers faced a far more challenging environment to teach in reducing the overall quality of teaching and learning. Teachers were less likely to be able to maintain high-expectations.
Weale (2016) found that for low-income students, having a very effective teacher could mean they gain a year and a half of learning in a year, compared to 6 months with an ineffective teacher.
