Education Flashcards
Knowlege
The Butlers education act of 1944 introduced the school leaving age be raised to 15 and 16 as soon as possible and 3 stages of schooling, Nursery, Primary and secondary
Knowlege
The 11-plus exam (12 in Scotland) decided which type of secondary school pupils would attend. Those who scored well went to grammar or senior secondary schools for academic subjects, while those who scored poorly went to junior secondary schools for technical subjects.
Analysis
This was important as the Education act became universal and everyone, regardless of social class, was entitled to a state education until the age of fifteen and
Labour also introduced a nationwide program to build new schools due to schools being destroyed during the war
Analysis Plus
The 11-plus system was controversial, as many saw it as deepening the divide between the rich and poor, worsening existing class inequalities.
