EDS Flashcards
Multi-function displays (MFD)
Fundamental operating principles?
- To enable the pilot to a have access to all these instruments in the one display
- Ease of view / reduce strain
Electronic Flight Instruments Systems (EFIS)
Function?
- To put all the primary flight information into one display
- Increase the aircrew’s situational awareness by integrating all this information
Electronic Flight Instruments Systems (EFIS)
Components?
- Display control panel
- Source control panel
- Symbol generator
Electronic Flight Instruments Systems (EFIS)
What does the display control panel do?
- Control the format of the display on each of the electronic displays
- Where inputs by the pilot are used by other equipment, data buses broadcast the pilot’s selections so that the pilot only needs to enter the selection once.
Electronic Flight Instruments Systems (EFIS)
What does the source control panel do?
- To select the type of information for display
- To select the source of information for display
Electronic Flight Instruments Systems (EFIS)
What does the symbol generator do?
- Receives data inputs from the pilot (signals from various sensors and EFIS format selections)
- It has monitoring capabilities, a graphics generator and a display driver
- Checks for validity
Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS)
Function?
- To monitor aircraft systems that were previously performed by a flight engineer
- Provide alerts to the aircrew if systems are operating out of acceptable parameters
Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS)
Components?
- Primary display unit
- Auxiliary display unit
- Computers (left and right)
- Display select panel
- Maintenance control panel
Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS)
What does the primary display unit do?
Displays the information that is critical to the pilot for the operation of the aircraft engines and for the displaying of aircraft faults.
Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS)
What does the auxiliary display unit do?
- Allows the ICAS system to display other engine parameters not shown on the primary display
- Show aircraft systems in a schematic format to aid the aircrew in operating an aircraft system
Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS)
What does the computers do?
- Two identical computers (left and right)
- Receive raw data from the aircraft systems and convert it into a useable format for display on the EICAS displays
Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS)
What does the display panel do?
Select the desired data for display
Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS)
What does the maintenance control panel do?
- Allows the selection of the system parameters for the overall system performance
- Clear faults
- Run tests
- View different pages
Electronic Centralised Aircraft Monitor (ECAM)
Function?
- Same job as engine Indication and Crew Alerting
- Monitor and display the condition of the major mechanical, electrical and environmental aircraft systems
Electronic Centralised Aircraft Monitor (ECAM)
Components?
- Display units
- Flight warning computer (FWC)
- System data acquistion concentrator (SDAC)
- Display management computer (DMC)
- ECAM control panel
- Master warning and master caution lights
- Audio speaker
