Editing Flashcards
What is editing?
Anything that’s changing and altering a text.
What is the 180 degree rule and why does it exist and why might it be broken?
Cameras can only be on one side of two characters in a scene to maintain the same left/right relationship with one another.
It’s disorientating and it used to be because there wouldn’t be another set on the other side.
It might be broken for an unsettling effect.
What is continuity editing?
When shots are in the correct order, however there can be cuts between events as long as there’s no disruption of time.
What can flashbacks be used for?
Telling things about a character or giving context.
What is a flash forward used for?
A way of thinking/plan/possible future, but is less common because its harder to interpret into stories.
What is a jump cut and what is its use?
The cutting out of small parts of a scene, used to make mundane things more interesting, to get rid of useless information, and to make a film shorter.
What is a montage?
A long period of time that is shortened to create an entertaining piece.
What is an L&J cut?
When the sound or video of a scene carries on longer.
What is an action cut?
Makes an action scene seem seamless, for example multiple shots making an action seem like it was done in one take.
What is a match cut?
Editing two shots to be next to eachother in a way that shows they link.
Smash Cut
Lots of fast cuts together
Cross Cut
Crossing between multiple stories in a scene
Invisible edit
Moving between two shots seamlessly
