Ecosystems Flashcards
(19 cards)
Write the word equations for Aerobic respiration, Anaerobic respiration and fermentation
1) Glucose+Oxygen-Carbon Dioxide+Water+Energy
2) Glucose-Latin Acids+Energy
3) Glucose-Ethanol+Carbon Dioxide+Energy
How does glucose and oxygen get to our cells
By aerobic respiration, they diffuse into our cells in exchange for Carbon Dioxide and Water
Does everything respire
No, plants photosynthesise
Aerobic means with/without oxygen
Anaerobic means with/without oxygen
Aerobic means with oxygen
Anaerobic means without oxygen
What do veins do in plants
Transfer Carbon Dioxide and Water throughout the leaf
Word equation for photosynthesis
Sunlight
Carbon Dioxide+Water-Oxygen+Glucose
Chlorophyll
What are Stomata for
Diffusing Carbon Dioxide and Water in and Oxygen and Glucose out
Where in the leaf does photosynthesis happen
Chloroplasts
Why are leaves broad and flat
Sunlight will hit it meaning the chlorophyll will diffuse more light.
Rain will stick to the leaves which give the plant nutrients
What is Glucose converted into a plant
Carbon Dioxide and Water
Is photosynthesis quicker on a sunny or cloudy day
Photosynthesis is quicker on a sunny day where more light will hit the leaf for chlorophyll to turn into energy
What is oxygen debt
When you have a shortage of oxygen, you have to respire anaerobically
How does Stomata open and close
By guard cells
What does Stomata let in and out
The let in Carbon Dioxide and Water, they let out Oxygen and Glucose
Why does the heart rate increase during excersie
So they blood can pump around the body to muscles and internal organs
What are some uses of the process of fermentation
Beer Wine Bread Cider Cheese
Describe an experiment to test what Glucose is stored as in a leaf
- Boil the leaf in Washington er for 5 minutes
- Remove leaf and place it in a boiling tube of ethanol
- Heat ethanol in water bath
- Rinse leaf in warm water
- Place leaf on tile
- Add iodine-starch test
Name 4 minerals essential for healthy plants
1) Magnesium
2) Nitrogen
3) Phosphorus
4) Potassium
What happens if a plant does not enough of these minerals
1) Leaves will turn yellow, not enough chlorophyll
2) Leaves will turn yellow and it will have weak stems, not enough protein
3) Leaves will turn purple, won’t grow roots
4) Leaves will be yellow with dead spots, won’t grow fruits
