Ecosystems Flashcards
What is soil made up of
Air (After) Water (Wally) MicroOrganism (Mowes Over) Minerals,Particles (Mark,Pete) PlantRemains (Produces,Rice)
What are the stages of colonization
- Bare rock
- Lichens
- Small annual plants + lichens
- Grasses and perennials
- Grasses, shrubs and shade intolerant trees such as pines
- Shade tolerant trees such as oak and hickory
What is an ecosystem succession
An ecosystem succession is when the dominant plant species changes
What are decomposers
Decomposers are micro-organisms that decompose waste
What is climatic climax
Climatic climax is the maximum number of plants or special able to grow in a certain area
What is plant succession
Plant succession is the change in the types of plant species that occupy a certain area at a time
What is a pioneer species
A pioneers species is the first plants to colonies a certain area. They are usually mosses, lichens and wiry grass
What is a tropic level
The tropic level is the level within a food chain which organizes the system
What are the different levels throughout the tropic table
TL1- Producers
TL2-Herbivores, Primary consumers
TL3-Secondary consumers, carnivores and omnivores
TL4-Secondary consumers (tertiary)
Decomposers act at all levels as they decompose waste
What is the difference between a food chain and a food web
Food Chain- Simpler, starlight line
Food web- Complex, shape of a web
