Ecosystems Flashcards
Environment
An environments is a place with abiotic and biotic.
Adaptation
An adaptation is a structure of behavior that allows a species to live and reproduce in it’s environment.
Species
All members of the same population
Community
A community is organisms that live together in an ecosystems
Biotic
Biotic means living
Abiotic
Non living things like rocks and dirt/soil
Niche
The niche of each species in an ecosystem is a result of it’s adaptations
Ecosystem
An area in which living and nonliving interact
Population
A population contains organisms of the same community.
Habitat
A habitat is the way that animals live.
Biome
Are large geographic areas that have similar climates and ecosystems.
Taiga
It is the largest land biome on earth it has long cold winters and short mild wet summers
Deciduous Forest
Can be found in eastern United States, Canada,Europe,China,Japan, and parts of Russia it also has 4 seasons and the average temperature is 50F
Rain Forest
The rain forest is located close to the equator they are wet and warm all summer and the average temperatures are 75F-85F
Grasslands
The weather I the grasslands varies greatly it is cold in winter hot in summer and the most important part of the grass land is that it is made up of GRASS!
Desert
The desert covers about 1/5 of the earth Antarctica is the largest desert and deserts are either hot or cold
Tundra
The tundra biome covers 1/5 of the earth’s surface it is the coldest biome on earth
Decomposers
Organisms that consume dead plants and animals. Bacteria and mushrooms decomposers.
Consumer
Are organisms that get energy from eating producers or other consumers. Deer are consumers
Producer
An organism that uses the sun’s energy to make their own food. Green plants are producers
Omnivore
Eats plants and animals
Herbivore
Eats only plants
Carnivores
Eats only meat
Food chain
A group of inter connected food chains
Food chain
A. Bunch of organisms that show what eats what and where they get there energy.
Predator
Hunts it’s prey
Prey
Is hunted by a predator
Tertiary
At the top of the pyramid
10% rule
Energy goes down by 10 when one thing eats another
Energy Pyramid
Has phytoplankton first then zooplankton then producer then consumer 1 then consumer 2 then the tertiary
