Ecosystems Flashcards
Decomposers
Decomposers change dead material into soil (bacteria, worms)
Producers
Producers using a process called photosynthesis, makes a sugar called glucose (palm trees, durian, grass, clover)
Primary consumer
Primary consumer: Eats producers
Secondary consumer
Secondary consumer: Mostly eats primary consumers / omnivores (tiger, fox)
Omnivores
Omnivores: eats PRODUCERS and primary and secondary consumers (orangutans)
Ecosystem
Ecosystem - is made of organisms living in an area interacting with their environment (water, air, soil, sun)
Habitat
Habitat - the natural home of an organism
Abiotic
Abiotic - non-living part of an ecosystem
Biotic
Biotic - living part of an ecosystem
Explain what the arrows in a food web show or represent
The arrows show the FLOW of energy from one organism to another
Why are producers called producers? What do they produce?
Producers make glucose (sugar) from sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.
Explain one thing all food webs have in common.
All food webs depend upon the sun for energy. They all have a specific order.
