An organism that makes its own food; an organism that does not consume other plants and animals
Producer
An organism that eats other living things to get energy; an organism that does not produce its own food.
Consumer
An animal that hunts and eats another animal.
Predator
An animal that is hunted and eaten by another animal.
Prey
A group of organisms that share similar characteristics and can mate with each other to produce offspring.
Species
The group of organisms of the same species living in the same area.
Population
A group of different populations that live together and interact in an environment.
Community
The variety of species that exist in an environment.
Biodiversity
The part of Earth which life can exist.
Biosphere
A model that shows one set of feeding relationships among living things.
Food Chain
A model that shows many different feeding relationships among living things.
Food web
The location in which an organism lives.
Habitat
A major ecological community such as grasslands, tropical rain forest, or desert.
Biome
All the living an non-living things in an area that interact with each other.
Ecosystem
The place or role that an organism has in its habitat.
Niche
A relationship between two species of a plant, animal, or fungus in which one lives off the other and both organisms benefit.
Mutualism
A relationship between two species of a plant, animal, or fungus in which one lives with, on, or in the other without damage to either.
Commonsalism
A certain type of non mutual relationship found between two different species in which one organism known as the parasite benefits as the expense of the other organism.
Parasitism
The process in which gaseous nitrogen is changed to ammonia.
Bacteria fixing
The process by which nitrogen is fixed to water molecules.
Lightning fixing
An interaction between two different organisms living in close, physical association, typically to the advantage of both.
