EcoSystem Processes Flashcards
What is Photosynthesis and where does it take place?
Photosynthesis is a chemical reaction that takes place in the chloroplasts
What dows photosynthesis produce?
Glucose
What is it called when a plant doesnt get the mierals they need?
They get a defficientcy
What do fertilisers do?
They add missing minerals to the soil
What is the Equation for Photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + Water —> glucose + Oxygen
What is the waxy layer?
The layer that reduced water loss by evaporation
What is chloroplast?
It is mainly located on the upper sife of the leaf where the most sunlight reaches
What is the the stomata layer?
It is on the lower surface to reduce water loss by evaporation
Why are leaves specially adapted for photosynthesis?
They have lots of chlorophyll
They are thin
They have a large surface area
They have veins
Why is lots of chlorophyll good?
To absorb sunlight for photosynthesis
Why does a leaf have to be thin?
To allow gases to diffuse in and out of the leaf
Whydo leaves need a large surface area?
To absorb as much light as possible
Why do leaves have veins?
xylem and phloem transport water and glucose
What mineral is used for growth?
Nirates
What mineral is needed for healthy roots?
Phosphates
