What does an ecosystem consist of?
All the organisms (the community) living in a particular habitat and the non-living components with which the organisms interact
What is a habitat?
A place where an organism is found
What is a niche?
The exact role of an organism in an ecosystem- how it survives, what it eats, and how it interacts with the habitat and other organisms in the community
What is a community?
All the living organisms in a habitat
What is a species?
A group of living things that are similar to each other genetically
What is biodiversity?
The variety of living and non living things on Earth
What is a carnivore?
An animal that gets its energy by eating only other animals
What is a herbivore?
An animal that gets its energy by only eating plants
What is an omnivore?
An animal that gets its energy from eating both plants and animals
What are predators?
Animals that hunt other animals for food
What is prey?
Animals that get hunted for food by predators
What is a food chain?
A diagram showing how energy is transferred between different organisms in an ecosystem
What is a population?
A group of the same species living in the same area
What is a producer?
A living thing that produces it’s own food through the means of photosynthesis
What is a consumer?
A living organism that eats organisms from a different population
