  1. Is the part of an economy that is not taxed, monitored by any form of government, or included in any gross national product (GNP), unlike the formal economy. For example, street vending, shoe shinning.
  2. A large number of working-age people migrate to urban areas searching for work, therefore the labour becomes surplus causing high unemployment because the competition for jobs increases. People can’t find jobs so they start their own informal businesses which bring low profit.
