Ecology Flashcards
What are the five levels of environmental organization?
Individual, population, community, ecosystem, biome, biosphere
What are abiotic factors
They are nonliving parts of the environment parentheses
What is a niche
A niche is a role, or something’s job to do in an in and environment
What is predator and prey
Predator and prey is like a crocodile eating a fish, crocodile is the predator, hunting the fish for food, the fish is the prey, the food
What is the difference between a food chain and a food web
A food chain, is a single path, is less adaptive, decreases stability of the community. A food web is several pathways and a community, it’s more adaptive and, more complex web increased stability of community
What are the different types of the symbiotic relationships
Mutualism, Parasitism, and commensalism. Mutualism, is when both organisms benefit each other. Parasitism, is whenOne organism benefits but the other does not. Commensalism, he is when one benefits and the other one is not harmed
Define ecology
Ecology, the study of interactions between organisms and between organisms and their environment
Defined population
A group of the same species interbred and live in the same area
Define community,
Different populations that live near each other and interact
Define ecosystem
All of the abiotic and biotic factors in a community
Define biosphere
The part of earth where life exists
Define herbivore
An organism that gets energy from plants, like a cricket
Define carnivore
An organism that gets energy and nutrients by eating other animals
Define omnivore
Eats plants and animals for food, like a raccoon
Define symbiosis
A close, long-term relationship between different species in a community
What is a biotic factor?
Abiotic factor is a living factor of environment parentheses
