Ecology Flashcards
Hydrosphere
All of Earth’s water bodies
Cryosphere
All the water that is temporarily frozen in polar ice caps,
snow, permafrost & glaciers
Lithosphere
The Earth’s crust, both above and below sea level
Atmosphere
the air above Earth’s surface
troposphere: 0 km - 12 km stratosphere: 13 km - 50 km
Why do different part on Earth have different day lengths?
Day length is affected by the earth’s tilt as well as the latitude of the location. During the
summer solstice day length is longest and during the winter solstice day length is shortest. The
closer to the poles, the longer the day during summer and the shorter the days during winter.
Spring and Fall equinox represent a time when the day length is equal to night regardless of
latitude.
