Ecology Flashcards
Describe the relationship Parasitism
+/-
Competition
-/-
Facilitation
+/ 0 or + : At least one of the interacting species gain the benefit and no one is harmed. e.g. Plant&Pollinator
Mutualism
+/+ : Both species gain benefits
=> What is the difference between symbiosis
Commensalism
+/0
Amensalism
-/0 One spieces is negatively affected by the other species, but the other is unaffected. Trees & under plants, trumping
What is the difference between symbiosis and mutualism?
Symbiosis is a relationship that exists between two or more species living together while mutualism is a type of symbiosis which is beneficial for both parties
What competition can lead to
Competition exclusion, differentiated niches, natural selection
What is life table
To present the overall mortality rates of species across their lifespan
What are two main factors in life table
Survivorship: The probability that one can survive in a period of the time
Fecundity: No offspring per surviving individuals
What are the types of life table
Type 1: parental support
Type 2: constant survivorship
Type 3: Lower rate of death after they get mature
R-strategists
A large number of offspring and a short lifespan, being able to use more resources
K-strategists
Living in a predictable environment, long lifespan
How is an ecosystem formed?
Filtration depending on dispersal, abiotic factors, and species interaction (Relative Neighbour Effect)
