Ecology Flashcards
Habitat
A habitat is the natural environment of an animal, plant, or other organisms.
Ecology
It is a branch of biology that deals with the relationships of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings.
Ecosystem
An ecosystem consists of all the organisms and the physical environment with which they interact.
Community
a community is a group of populations of two or more different species occupying the same area at the same time as eachother.
Abiotic
In biology and ecology, abiotic components or abiotic factors are non-living chemical and physical parts of the environment that affect living organisms and the functioning of ecosystems.
Quantitative
the application of advanced mathematical and statistical tools to any number of problems in the field of ecology.
Adaptation
Evolutionary adaptation, or simply adaptation, is the adjustment of organisms to their environment in order to improve their chances at survival in that environment.
Interdependence
All organisms in an ecosystem depend upon each other. If the population of one organism rises or falls, then this can affect the rest of the ecosystem.
Quantitative
Quantitative ecology is the application of advanced mathematical and statistical tools to any number of problems in the field of ecology.
