Ecological Footprint Flashcards
What is an ecological footprint?
An ecological footprint shows how much land and resources a person or group uses based on their consumption and waste. It shows the environmental impact of their lifestyle.
What does carrying capacity mean?
Carrying capacity is the most people or animals an area can support without damaging the environment. It depends on how many resources are available and how fast they can be replaced.
What 2 factors caused Earth’s carrying capacity to increase?
Technology has helped grow more food, use energy better, and support more people.
The discovery of fossil fuels provided energy for industries, transportation, and farming, which helped the population grow.
What will happen to Earth’s carrying capacity as non-renewable resources are used up and renewable resources deteriorate?
As fossil fuels run out and resources like forests and clean water get damaged, there will be fewer resources to support life. This will make it harder for people to survive, and the population may shrink.
