Eco-System Flashcards
What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is a living community of plants and animals and the environment in which they live.
What does an eco-system need to have?
Living and non-living things
What is photosynthesis?
Plants making their own food!
How do plants get food?
In a woodland the plants take up nutrients from the soil in order to grow.
How does photosynthesis work?
- The plants gather in carbon dioxide from the air and replace it with oxygen
- The oxygen and carbon dioxide in the air turn into glucose on the leaves
- The Sun’senergy turns the carbon dioxide and water into glucose.
- Glucose combines with the minerals from the soil to make plants grow. These minerals are called nutrients.
Why is the rain goes put into the ground?
To stabilise it and so not to be intercepted by trees or buildings!
What is the producer?
Things they produced their own food
What are consumers?
Things that cannot make their own food and then have to get their energy by consuming plants or other animals!
What are recyclers of the ecosystem that makes things rot releasing nutrients into the soil that can then be used by growing plants?
Decomposers
Give an example of a consumer!
Hooman
Where does bacteria go into?
Decomposers!
What are the three types of consumers?
Herbivores, omnivores and carnivores
What do herbivores eat?
Only plants…
What do omnivores eat?
Both plants and animals!
What only eats meat?
A carnivore!
