These are Ecologically Fragile Areas (EFA’s) around National Parks , protected areas and wildlife sanctuaries

What is the purpose of declaring ESZ’s by the Govt ?
A
To create some kind of “shock absorbers” to the protected areas by regulating and managing the activities around such areas.

Why are ESZ’s called transition zones ?
A
Because they act as such from areas of high protection to areas involving lesser protection

A
It has directed Union Govt to declare 10km area around 21 national parks and wildlife sanctuaries as ESZ
