ECG basics Flashcards
fundamentals
On ecg papper , one small box is = to
.04 sec ( 40 milliseconds)
One large box consist of
5 small boxes= .20 seconds or 200 milliseconds
Pri interval is measured from
start of p to the start of qrs
Normal pri interval is what duration
.12-.2 milli sec
what is the normal qrs duration
less than 1.2 milli sec
The firtst negative deflection in qrs is called
Q wave
q wave represents
electricity from right to left of septum in heart.
Q wave should measure
No more than 40 milli sec and be less than 1/3 the overall height of the qrs
R wave is the first …
upword deflection
S wave is located….
at the first downward deflection after the r wave
What is the j point
where qrs ends and ST segment begins. Represents end of depolarization and begaining of repolarization.
Why is j point significant
It often depresses or elevates when myocardium is ischemic.
ST segment starts and ends where?
begains at j point and ends at T wave.
T wave represents….
Ventricular repolarization
What characteristics should the t wave have?
- It should be asymmetric
- be less than half the height of qrs complex.
- Be oriented in the same direction as what the qrs is prodominatly.
