  3. Confirm patient details
  4. Explain procedure: “I need to perform an ECG which is an electrical trace of your heart, it involves me putting sticky pads on your chest & limbs, I will connect these to an ECG machine to record the trace, procedure involves no electricity.
  5. Gain consent and confidentiality
  6. Do you understand? Ok to proceed?
  7. Remove socks and tshirt.

A
  1. Identify 4th ICS FROM angle of Louis
  2. Attach V1 (right 4th ICS)
  3. Attach V2 (left 4th ICS)
  4. Attach V4 (5th ICS/MCL (apex))
  5. Attach V3 in middle of v2 & v4
  6. Attach v5 (left anterior axillary line)
  7. Attach v6 (left mid axillary line)

  1. Turn on ECG, load paper
  2. Tell patient to remain still and not talk (reduce electrical artefact)
  3. Print and label trace with patient details
  4. Trace obtained switch off ECG
  5. Detach leads from electrodes and remove adhesive pads
  6. Thank and allow patient to dress
  7. Wash hands
